Why having stream overlay’s even needed?
Overlays are important because they help keep viewers engaged throughout your entire stream. They give them something to look at other than just a dull black screen while waiting for their turn in the game or watching someone else play instead of them!
It’s also nice to have that extra touch when promoting yourself as a content creator online since people love seeing things that stand out from the crowd and make them feel special about being part of what makes you unique as well.

How to setup Stream overlay in OBS
How to setup static stream overlay in OBS
The following tutorial will show you how to setup a static stream overlay in OBS Studio. The overlay can be used for example to display the game’s title on top of an image, or to display information about the game being played.
But as we mostly know the common stream overlays, like Stream Starting soon, Facecam border, Stinger Transitions etc.
Step 1: Creating a new Scene
Open your OBS Studio app and create a new scene. To create a scene, click this Plus icon and give any name you want. Then click ‘OK.’

Now you might be thinking, what is a scene?
A scene is a place where you will add and store all the contents in one particular need.
For example: If you have created an in-game stream overlay scene, then it will contain:
- Your camera source
- Gameplay screen
- Chatbox widget
- Ingame overlays
- Facecam or Webcam Overlay
And more things.
I hope this was easy to understand what is a scene in OBS Studio.
Now let’s add some elements to this scene.
Step 2: Adding elements to the scene
it’s time to add some elements to this scene. Suppose you want to add your logo or a static image. To add that, click the plus icon under the Sources section.

Then a list of options will appear. But for the sake of this easy post, I will be choosing the Image source.
Once you click the image source, a box will appear and asked to name your source.

If you already have an active source, you can select the second option. Also, make sure you have checked the make source visible options. Otherwise, if somehow it’s disabled, the image will not be shown.

After that, browse the image and hit OK.
And Congrats. You have successfully added your image.

You can also add text and other kinds of stuff by following these simple steps. But some sources are complicated and if you are finding them undoable, then feel free to leave a comment below.
How to setup Animated stream overlay in OBS
To add an animated overlay in OBS, the process is exactly the same as adding a static overlay part. But instead of choosing an Image source, you need to choose Media Source.

But this time you will see more options. But don’t worry. Let me explain the two most imp[ortant things you should know.
Local File: it basically the place where you can locate the animated File you want to add. Click the browse button on the right side and then select your animated overlay. Then OBS Studio will be ready to add your selected overlay into the scene.

Loop: This option is a must know feature. If you have a loopable animation or an animated media source that needs to be played automatically in your stream, you need to choose this loop option.
Tick the box, and your imported media file will be in the loop.
After you have done that, click the OK button.
So, you have also learned how to setup an animated overlay in OBS Studio as well.
